Home

I am officially calling México home now. Returning from Guatemala I had that wonderful sense of comfort you get when you sleep in your own bed after you've been travelling. I even thought to myself, "Thank goodness I'm back where things function properly!" Of course the refrigerator had broken while I was away, and we were still waiting for that repairman to fix the washing machine, but everything really is relative. And spending this rainy Saturday afternoon putzing around the apartment, doing laundry, and being pleasantly surprised when both the refrigerator repairman AND the washing machine guy showed up AND fixed both applicances, has been thoroughly enjoyable. I suppose after the chaos of moving and the flurry of travel, it's time for a little nesting.

Not that I didn't have an absolutely wonderful time in Guatemala, as the pictures testify. I barely got a taste of the country in a week, half of which was spent in the annual gathering of Quakers from around the Americas and the other half in tourist areas (Antigua and Lake Atitlan), but you can see why I'm already saving for a trip back. And I highly recommend a stay at Casa del Mundo, a magical hotel on Lake Atitlan that can't be described, only experienced.

Note: I've included captions for some of the photos on Flickr, but for some reason the slideshow feature seems to ignore them. If you're wondering what you're looking at, try clicking on the photos individually to see captions.
