Well, if I needed something to raise my spirits while we wait for the baby, I got it today. Double migration success. Surely this only happens once every few centuries.
First my dad informed us that Alberto's corrected residency visa (green card) had finally arrived! After having to send back the first card because the ever-competent immigration services screwed up his name, twice!, it's a huge relief to finally have the actual card, with all the right information and an expiration date of 2018. We started the process just around a year ago and it's finally finished. Alberto can live and work in the U.S. without the stress of worrying about his visa status. Hurray!!
And as if that wasn't enough, I've also just returned from Migración with my own residency and work visa in hand and up to date. I had to update it within 30 days of leaving my job at the Casa and I've been waiting to see if they would accept the documents I submitted or ask me for something more (a common scenario). It's been worrying because without my FM3 we can't register the baby in Mexico or with the US embassy. I called today, earlier than they said to, just in case it had been processed. Miraculously it had, and the woman gave me a number I had to then bring in person to the office to find out what the response was. With nothing better to do, I hopped in a cab and headed to Migración, and, after waiting in more lines and wondering if I could get them to speed up the process if I pretended to go into labor, they handed me my updated visa, fully approved. ¡Increible!
Two migration processes completed in one day! Ok, Baby, you can come out now, both your parents are fully documented.

Congrats on the whole family being legal!! That is excellent news! So what would have happened if you had had the baby today instead of getting that approved? Unregistered baby?
My coworker loves to read your blog, and she thinks you are totally nuts to be running around town when you could go into labor at any time! (Actually she said you must really have balls.)
I'm still hoping you can hurry up and have the baby today on Leap Day! Love you!
Hello!
I've been reading your blog for awhile now. I found the link through the Quaker's Colonel blog who links to you.
I'm wondering if you could direct me to anyone who might know if there are Quakers living in Xalapa? We'll be living there for two years starting this summer--my husband (a Mexican) just received a fulbright. We're really excited. I would like to hook up once in a while with some other quakers. Know where I might turn for any info?
Thanks,
K
p.s. good luck with the new baby!
Dear K,
Thanks for reading and congratulations to you and your husband on the Fulbright! There's not much of a Quaker community that I know of in Xalapa, but I do know a Quaker couple who go there a few months every year. Please send me your email address and I'll put you in touch with them. They'd be very happy to know you will be there.
Suerte!
