Maria's Replacement

Well, I got back from Rhode Island on Monday, luckily avoiding the travel chaos that had erupted from the snowstorm that passed through while I was there. And I have to say, while I enjoyed the snow for a few days, it was nice to immediately shed all those layers and return to sandals and short sleeves.

And to get back to the land of fresh juice stands on every corner, including the corner near me where Maria and her tortilleria use to be. The small storefront has reopened as a juice and licuado stand painted with bright colors and run by two middle aged women. I haven't stopped in yet. I feel some sense of loyalty to Maria or maybe am being self-righteous and stubborn about it. I imagine these women are working hard to see if they can make a go of it now, and it's certainly better than some of the businesses I feared might open there instead. Still a family shop, still run by women, and still offering something nutritious and yummy.

Hopefully Maria has found a new opportunity as well.
