A Referral

So, we get a call at the Casa this week. It's another couple that has been deported from the U.S. The woman sounds American, perhaps she came with her husband when he was found without papers and sent back to Mexico. They're looking for work, staying with some distant family.

"I'm so sorry, we don't have much to offer. How did you hear about us?" I ask.
"The U.S. embassy gave us your number."
"The U.S. embassy?!" That's a new one.
"Yes. They suggested we call you."
"Did they say why? What they thought we might be able to offer?"
"No. We just went to them looking for help and they gave us this number."

So now it appears the U.S. government is referring people to the Casa of all places to try to fix the problems created by their own flawed policies! Brilliant. It may be time for a visit to the embassy.

Did you know you duped this entry?

Once or twice, I've tried to help people in need to find an organization both able and willing to help them. It was a very frustrating experience. Referral after referral after referral. Even the folks who were obviously doing everything they could were often unable to help due to lack of resources or legal mumbo jumbo.

I do wonder how the embassy came up with you as a referral. Apparently, you do good work.

Sounds like you are now the referral agency for the returnees..
wonder if the SA there is involved yet ... not sure if they have housing there .. maybe not ..

Anyway, sounds like a visit to the Embassy is a good idea...
